The overall purpose of the Kick-Off workshop is to define the scope of research and the work plan to reach the Annex Objectives, as well as confirm the participants who will contribute to the Annex. and the outcomes expected from the Annex 

Interested parties are invited to attend and participate.

 The workshop will start with a visit to a Hidden Hydro development. Workshops will have presentations by Annex participants and others on the work being undertaken on related topics covering Hidden Hydro. 

 This will be followed by a “gap analysis” to identify key research topics, required to meet the Annex objectives that are not presently being covered. The workshop will conclude with the development of a work plan and the participants' contributions to the research.

The overall conference theme is "Concept to closure: practical steps", and a list of more specific themes and expected topics is included in the brochure. The deadline for submitting an abstract is 8 February 2019.  

AFRICA 2019  is the third event in this regional series. The conference is being organised in partnership with ICOLD. Supporting organisations include ICID, the IEA, and the national utilities NamWater and NamPower, who are pleased to welcome international experts to come and exchange experience on key topics relevant to the African continent.

Registration for FISH PASSAGE 2018 which will incorporate the the FIRST SYMPOSIUM ON HYDROPOWER AND FISH MANAGEMENT is now open.  The symposium will provide opportunities for researchers, managers, and the hydropower industry to discuss and collaborate on key topics. A Special Issue of Marine & Freshwater Research will be made available at the conference for manuscripts related to the themes in the Hydropower and Fish Management symposium.The conference will be held 10-14 December, 2018, in Albury, New South Wales, Australia.  Detailed information and registration here.

Registration for HYDRO 2018 in Gdansk is now open. All registrations are being handled by ASK Event Management on behalf of Aqua~Media. Visit the HYDRO 2018 website for more details about the conference, the programme and to register.  

The Final Bulletin containing the full programme for HYDRO 2018 is nearing completion, ready for registration to be launched in early July. Meanwhile, as the second major stage in Aqua~Media’s website upgrade, a sub-section of the Acqua Media website dedicated to HYDRO 2018 has been completed and launched. The increased focus on ecological issues in regulated rivers calls for an international understanding on how hydropower industry can be developed towards a more environmentally friendly operation and how European legislation and framework is used to regulate renewable energy production from hydropower. The workshop intends to address the European research and legislation relevant for hydropower production and the impacts on fish in regulated rivers. 

We would welcome your attendance at the workshop and your participation in the discussions. The workshop presentations from hydropower producers, researchers, hydropower policy and river management, will cover the topics, challenges and interests in the intercepts between hydropower and fish.  Please find more information in the DRAFT AGENDA .

The workshop will be followed by a field visit to the Ham Hydropower Plant at the Albert Canal, close to Brussels, on 31 May 2017.

Please note that, due to increased security measures, you will need to register for the event by sending an email to RTD-IEA-HYDRO-2017@ec.europa.eu before the registration deadline of 15 May 2017 and that you will be required to present a valid proof of identity on the day of the event to access the venue.

Due to the capacity of the room, we can only accept a limited number of participants. You will receive confirmation of your attendance to the event shortly after the registration deadline.

"Design a small hydropower project in one day" is being organized by British Hydropower Training in partnership with Gilkes. It will be conducted by Prof. David Williams (former CEO of the British Hydropower Association) and Gordon Black (babyHydro), who have designed and run successful small hydropower training courses for the BHA since 2013. This will be a 'hands-on' workshop, with participants developing a design for an actual hydro project site in Laos.  For more information...

Hydropower could double its contribution by 2050, reaching 2,000 GW of global capacity and over 7,000 TWh. This achievement, driven primarily by the quest of clean electricity, could prevent annual emissions of up to 3 billion tonnes of CO2 from fossil-fuel plants. The bulk of this growth would come from large plants in emerging economies and developing countries.
