Annex VI - Public Awareness

Background

The Annex on Public Awareness (Annex VI, Phase 2) took on the task of developing a website to raise public awareness of hydropower, in general, and the work of the IEA Hydropower Implementing Agreement, in particular. Its aim was to populate the site with a network of balanced, objective information about a range of hydropower subjects for both professionals and non-professionals.

Outcomes

A Hydropower Implementing Agreement website that provided the basis for this current site was launched in 2003. The Operating Agents for Annex VI were the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and Argonne National Laboratory, who contributed much of the original technical content of this website, and other sections including the original FAQ section.

In addition the Annex produced the brochures:

• Hydropower - A Key to Prosperity in the Growing World (pdf 424kb), and
• Hydropower and the World's Energy Future, written jointly with other international hydropower organizations
