Current Activities

Annex XI: Renewal & Upgrading of Hydropower Plants

Purpose
Provide useful information to facilitate decision-making on the renewal and upgrading of existing hydropower facilities, through the presentation and analysis of relevant case histories covering good practice
ii. Interested parties
Hydropower companies, original equipment manufacturers (OEM), expert consultants. Associated groups to be invited for cooperation: IHA, ESHA, etc.
iii. Contributors
Member Countries are Japan (OA), Norway and USA. Brazil Finland and Canada will provide case histories, as input.
iv. Methodology
Case histories will be collected that cover examples of renewal and upgrading projects on existing hydropower facilities from around the world.
Initial collection of case histories will be based on the Annex VIII model. Subsequent collection of case histories will be focused to obtain specific information required. Workshop will be held to solicit case histories, as appropriate.
The relevant case histories that relate to public policies, decision indicators, facilitation measures, asset management criteria and life cycle cost evaluation, will be analyzed under Category-1
The relevant case histories that relate to examples of modern technologies and identify good practices in terms of systems, materials will be analyzed under Category-

Hoover Dam, California, USAFollowing the success of Annex VIII - Hydropower Good Practices, Japan is again taking the lead in this new initiative. 

Purpose

To provide useful information to facilitate decision-making on the renewal and upgrading of existing hydropower facilities, through the presentation and analysis of relevant case histories covering good practice.

Annex Contributors

Member Countries are Japan (OA), Norway and USA. Brazil Finland and Canada will provide case histories, as input.

Methodology

Following the Annex VIII model, case histories will be collected that cover examples of renewal and upgrading projects on existing hydropower facilities from around the world.

These will be focused in two categories covering:

  • public policies, decision indicators, facilitation measures, asset management criteria and life cycle cost evaluation, will be analyzed under Category-1
  • examples of modern technologies and identify good practices in terms of systems, materials will be analyzed under Category-2
